“I love you, my star,” she said sitting under the moon.
The image of light making her shimmy a swoon.
“I miss you, old friend,” she called, eyes a twinkle.
“I hope you don’t mind I started to wrinkle.”
She blushed berry pink, body wrapped in her tail.
She sat in the grass, heart ailing, but fighting that wail.
Her nose pointed high to the sky and nuzzled the navy.
“Can you see me, Star, learning to dance? I’m the one waving.
I see you there, but only an outline.
You’re whiter, you’re brighter, you’re further, not mine.
What I see here is your centuries past.
Your wink, a memory, leaving me behind, leaving me last.
But that wink, Sir, the one you once gave me with love,
I see it pleasant and present and perfect above.
Even my future sits in your past, though.
I don’t mind if it means you hold joy for another’s, so,
Listen to my song, see me dance with rhythm.
We can’t all be so lovely with poised precision.
Light Bend brightly glowing, as I stand by crying.
You’re not sun nor moon, not North or Orion.
There’s other stars, but none like you.
Please keep sending rays; I’ll wait for my queue.
I will send you grace between the willow trees.
The leaves and the branches all pleased and appeased.
Princess, I love that you hold this star, thank you.
You make him smile more than I could ever do.
Don’t lose that sparkle, celestial one.
Even if you are gone, my heart is not done.
I’ll be here waiting if you don’t mind.
Just to make sure you cherished your time.
Sitting here looking up to the sky,
Logging that spark til your end til mine.”
